The port has strengthened its commercial team with the appointment of a new business development manager.
Anth Phinn joined the team as we continue to build on recent growth and rising demand across its key markets.
Working alongside port director Matthew Hunt and general manager Sven Richards, Anth will support client relationships and help identify new business development opportunities that align with the port’s strategic priorities. Key is the diversification of port commercial activity with a clear focus on opportunities in the commodity, circular economy and offshore oil, gas and renewable energy supply chains.
Anth joins from Royal Dutch LV Logistics, where he was UK Agency Manager overseeing operations and key client accounts. Prior to that, he worked at Clarksons Port Services, gaining experience in the maritime and logistics sectors.
Anth’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for the port, as a growing regional location for significant private sector capital investment across a range of strategic markets.
In recent years, the port has strengthened its position as a UK-leading hub for the circular economy and advanced materials handling, with a focus on the development of associated sustainable supply chains.
“As someone who is from the North East and lives locally, I’m proud to be joining Port of Sunderland at such an exciting point in its journey,” Anth said.
“The port has built a fantastic reputation for being agile, commercially focused and customer driven and that really appealed to me. It has also carved out a reputation for being a hub of circular economy and advanced materials handling activity, both of which are areas I’m incredibly passionate about.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Matthew, Sven and the rest of the team to strengthen existing client relationships, attract new private sector investment and play a significant role in helping to write the next chapter in the history of the port.”
Matthew Hunt, director at Port of Sunderland, believes Anth’s appointment will further boost the port’s commercial offering.
He said: “We are delighted that Anth has agreed to join us as our new business development manager.
“He brings with him a wealth of experience from across the maritime, offshore and commodity sectors. Just as importantly, he understands the region and the importance of the port to the North East economy.
“With Sven leading our commercial strategy and Anth focused on business development and client engagement, I am confident we have a strong team in place to support our customers and build on the significant momentum we’ve generated in recent years.”
